Mortgage Industry Leader Says Housing Market Will Rebound After COVID-19

In an exclusive podcast interview, David Stevens,Chief Executive Officer at Mountain Lake Consulting, Inc., and former CEO and President of the Mortgage Bankers Association, says he expects the housing market will make a healthy recovery once coronavirus subsides

CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 28, 2020) — David Stevens, Chief Executive Officer at Mountain Lake Consulting, Inc., and former CEO and President of the Mortgage Bankers Association, cleared up misinformation in the mortgage industry and revealed his expectations for a healthy housing market recovery following the COVID-19 crisis. He shared his outlook during an exclusive interview with real estate leader Brian Buffini on The Brian Buffini Show podcast where they covered several topics surrounding the mortgage industry during the coronavirus pandemic. Stevens follows guests like Dr. Lawrence Yun, Chief Economist with the National Association of REALTORS®, and Dr. Ben Carson, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, who have also appeared on The Brian Buffini Show podcast in recent weeks.

During the podcast episode, Buffini and Stevens discuss the tightening of minimum requirements for mortgage qualifications, as well as, when financial institutions will begin to readjust their credit parameters to reflect the current circumstances of many Americans. While widespread job loss has affected many markets, Stevens said, “Governors across the country are going to start having us go back to work sometime in June at the latest, May in some states. And all this downward trend is going to stop in its tracks … It won’t be back to where it was, but we’re going to see immediate pop back.”

Buffini shared this sentiment, explaining that given current inventory shortage, pent-up demand will be sure to follow. “The bottom line is, all economics is supply and demand, and we still have a limited supply and high demand,” Buffini said.

For nearly 30 years, Stevens has worked in the mortgage finance field, serving in many different roles. During the Obama Administration, Stevens joined the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as the Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner. Before this appointment, Stevens served as President and COO of the Long and Foster Companies.

The Brian Buffini Show podcast launched in 2016 and quickly jumped to the #2 position in the Apple Podcasts business category. The podcast provides real estate professionals and consumers with Brian’s Irish wit and profound insights, along with the views of his informative guests.
